Biography
Dr K Zaman, a senior scientist and epidemiologist at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) Infectious Disease Division. Dr. Zaman obtained his MBBS in Bangladesh; he obtained his MPH and PhD from the Johns Hopkins University in infectious disease control. Dr K Zaman and his research colleagues have won the prestigious 2016 Charles C. Shepard Science Award for an article published on polio research in the Lancet Infectious Diseases. The publication also recently won the Lifetime Scientific Achievement Award for Prevention and Control. For the last 33 years he gained extensive experience in the design, implementation, and analysis of data from clinical and community-based epidemiological/vaccine studies. His primary interests are to conduct researches on vaccines and infectious diseases. Besides clinical studies on ORS, drug trial, vaccine studies, vitamin A supplementation and hospital surveillance, he have been involved in community-based research on diarrhoeal and respiratory diseases and other public health problems in Bangladesh. Currently he is the Principal Investigator of several Flu, Hepatitis E, pneumococcal, polio, Japanese encephalitis (JE) and rotavirus vaccine studies and epidemiological studies on tuberculosis in icddr,b. He has 145 publications in international journals and more than 120 presentations in International scientific conferences. Dr. Zaman also serves as Section Editor of the Journal of “Health, Population and Nutrition†and is a reviewer for more than 20 international journals.
