Dr. Hu received his DVM in 1982 and MS in veterinary medicine in 1985 from Zhejiang Agricultural University in China. In 2002, he received his PhD from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine. He has been a faculty member of Zhejiang University College of Veterinary Medicine since 1985, and currently serves as the head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine. He teaches courses in TCVM, veterinary acupuncture, and veterinary immunology to undergraduate and postgraduate students. He has published 10 books and over 100 scientific papers, and has also obtained 15 national innovation patents.

His research interests are in the mechanisms of Veterinary Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture.

Dr Brooks is currently Global Safety Physician for vaccines and infectious disease at AstraZeneca/Medimmune. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and then went on to get his MD from the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine. With additional degrees from the University of North Carolina and Johns Hopkins University. He has been on the Pediatric Faculty at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and is currently on the Faculty at Albert Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia. He has served on the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP) in the US. In addition to appearing on several media outlets he has authored or co-authored several publications related to immunization delivery. His industry experience has focused on supporting the introduction, delivery and safety of vaccination in the Asia Pacific. In that capacity he has traveled throughout the region.

Vaccines

Nikolai Petrovsky MBBS, FRACP, PhD is an active hospital clinician, research professor at Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide Australia and research director of Vaxine, an Australian vaccine development company. He is Secretary-General of the International Immunomics Society and has received major funding from the US National Institutes of Health to develop novel biodefense vaccines and adjuvants. He has won prestigious awards including the AMP Innovation Award at the 2009 Telstra Business Awards and an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2010. He has taken four vaccines to the clinic and has authored over 100 scientific papers and book chapters.

Vaccines

Dr. Jan Poolman is Head Bacterial Vaccine Discovery and Early Development at Janssen Infectious Diseases and Vaccines, at the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson. Jan leads the bacterial vaccines team, which focuses on developing vaccines against the most prevalent antibiotics resistant bacteria. In his role Jan is also responsible for external partnerships and clinical studies. He holds this function since 2011. Jan is also a member of the Advisory Board for the Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative (TBVI) and a member of the Editorial Board for the Expert Review of articles for the journal Vaccines. From 1986 until 1996, Jan was Head of Vaccines R&D at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment in the Netherlands (RIVM) and later the Netherlands Vaccines Institute (NVI). In 1997 he moved to industry and was appointed Head & Vice-President Bacterial Vaccines R&D at GSK Biologicals in Belgium. During his tenure, he contributed to the licensure of several vaccines: DTPaHBIPVHib Infanrix-Hexa, DTPaHBIPV Pediarix, Tdap Boostrix, HibMenC-TT Menitorix, 10-valent pneumococcal conjugate Synflorix, HibMenCY-TT Menhibrix, and ACWY-TT Nimenrix. Jan began his career at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) where he obtained a Master’s degree in Chemistry in 1975 and a PhD on Meningococcal Surface Structure in 1981. In 1982 he was awarded an NIH post-doctoral fellowship research position at the University of Washington in Seattle, USA. In 1983 Jan returned to the UvA as Assistant-Professor Bacteriology. Bacterial Vaccines

Jan Fohlman has completed his PhD and MD from Freiburg, Linköping, Uppsala University and has been working as a consultant in infectious diseases for >30 years, now at Dept of Research and Development Region Kronoberg, Växjö, working closely with Linnaeus Univeristy. He is a board member of 3Diva AB, a recently started vaccine development company . He has published more than 100 papers in reputed journals and has been serving as a referee for multiple journals.

Vaccines

Dr. De-chu Christopher Tang is the Founder of VaxDome LLC and Vaxin Inc. (Vaxin’s nameplate was changed to Altimmune, Inc. in 2015). He obtained his PhD in Microbiology from Indiana University in 1989. He carried out his postdoctoral work at Baylor College of Medicine, Duke University, and University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He joined the faculty at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 1994; subsequently founded Vaxin Inc. on UAB campus in 1997; and was responsible for Vaxin’s daily operation as the Chief Scientific Officer until 2012. Dr. Tang was one of the pioneers during the development of DNA vaccines, noninvasive skin-patch vaccines, adenovirus-vectored nasal vaccines, adenovirus-vectored poultry vaccines, as well as the protective innate-adaptive immunity duo platform technology. He received the Wallace H. Coulter Award for innovation and entrepreneurship in 2000; and Vaxin Inc. was selected as a Tech Museum Awards Laureate in 2007. Dr. Tang was selected as a Distinguished Overseas Scientist by the South Korea KOFST Brain Pool Program in 2012; subsequently joined Chung-Ang University and International Vaccine Institute (IVI) in Seoul; and was appointed as a Scientist at IVI after the Brain Pool Program Award expired in 2013. He founded VaxDome LLC in Birmingham, Alabama, USA in 2014.

His research focuses on development of the non-invasive drug-vaccine duo (DVD) platform technology that confers rapid-sustained-broad protection of vaccinees against pathogens, with neither the potential to induce drug resistance nor that to trigger harmful systemic inflammation.

Chit Laa Poh completed her PhD at Monash University(Australia) in 1980 and conducted short periods of postdoctoral training from the Pasteur Institute, Cambridge University and the University College London. She is a Distinguished Professor and Head of the Centre for Biomedical Sciences at Sunway University. She has previously worked in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine , National University of Singapore (NUS) for 25 years. She has published more than 85 papers in reputed journals and has been serving as an editorial board member of Journal of Biosceince and Bioengineering, Austin Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygeine, Journal of Virology and Emerging Diseases. And Annals of Translational Medicine and Epidemiology.

Viral Vaccines

Guey Chuen Perng, nick name Oscar, earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at University of California, Davis, and got his postdoc training in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC), an affiliated teaching hospital to University of California, Los Angeles. Oscar was an assistant professor at the Department of Ophthalmology at UC Irvine and served as Director of Arbovirology division at AFRIMS, an affiliated research institute to US Military in Bangkok, Thailand. In 2007, Oscar was recruited to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine as an Associate Professor at Emory University. In 2012, with his outstanding research and insightful knowledge on dengue and global vision on infectious diseases and prevention, Oscar was recruited to the Center of Infectious Disease and Signaling Research at National Cheng Kung University. Currently, Oscar is a faculty at Department of Microbiology and Immunology, College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan.

Refat Sadeq, Prof. and Head of Medical Microbiology and Immunology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Port Said University, Egypt. He has been on microbiology field over 40 years. He has started and graduated in Zagazig Faculty of Medicine for M.Sc. and Ph.D. Then started to research articles reaching more than 80 articles, many of which have been published in international scientific journals, and he has reviewed over 100 edits on different journal sites. He is a Featured Author, for books in Medical Microbiology and Immunology for both medical students and nurses. Work from 2008-2011 as Head of Microbiology Department, Faculty of Medicine- Zagazig University. Also work as member of Egyptian scientific committee for graduation of Professor and assistant Professor in Microbiology in Egypt and some Arabic countries. He signed as Board editor of EC Microbiology Journal and Journal of Human Virology and Retrovirology. Since Oct 2014 he pointed as a Head of Microbiology and Immunology department, Faculty of Medicine, Port said University.
